Etsy Fee Calculator 2026: What You Really Keep From a Sale

Updated October 2026 · CellsAndCraft guides

You sell a $20 pair of earrings on Etsy. The buyer pays $20, but $20 does not land in your bank account. Before you count materials, packaging or postage, Etsy takes several separate fees, and they are easy to underestimate because they show up as different lines in your payment account.

This guide walks through every standard Etsy seller fee in 2026, works through a $20 sale line by line, and shows what changes when a sale comes through Offsite Ads. All rates below come from Etsy's own fee pages, linked at each step. Fees change from time to time, so check the links before you set prices.

The fees on every Etsy sale

1. Listing fee: $0.20

Etsy charges $0.20 to publish a listing, and the listing renews for another $0.20 after each sale (automatic renewal). So for most sellers it is effectively $0.20 per item sold. If a buyer orders three of the same item, that is three renewals.

2. Transaction fee: 6.5%

Etsy takes 6.5% of the item price plus what you charge for shipping (and gift wrapping, if you offer it). Free shipping does not avoid this fee; it just means the shipping part is zero and your item price is usually higher.

3. Payment processing fee: depends on your bank country

When the buyer pays through Etsy Payments, Etsy charges a processing fee on the order total. The rate depends on where your bank account is. For a US bank account it is 3% + $0.25 per order. In the UK it is 4% + £0.20, in most EU countries 4% + €0.30, and other countries have their own rates.

4. Offsite Ads fee: 15% or 12%, only on some orders

Etsy advertises listings on other sites (Google, social media and others). If a buyer clicks one of those ads and buys within 30 days, you pay an Offsite Ads fee on that order: 15% if your shop made less than $10,000 in the last 12 months, 12% once you pass $10,000. The fee is capped at $100 per order. Shops under $10,000 can opt out; above that, participation is required.

5. Regulatory operating fee: some countries only

Sellers in some countries pay an extra regulatory operating fee, a percentage of the order total, which Etsy adds to cover local regulations. Whether it applies to you depends on where your shop is based. Check the current list on the fee page.

Other fees you might see

Depending on your setup you may also see a currency conversion fee (if your listings are priced in a different currency than your payment account), Etsy Ads spend (the onsite ads you choose and budget yourself), shipping labels bought through Etsy, and in some regions a one-time shop setup fee. These are not part of every sale, so they are left out of the example below.

Worked example: a $20 sale

Assumptions: US shop with a US bank account, item price $20, free shipping, no sales tax on the order, one item, the buyer did not come through Offsite Ads, no regulatory fee.

Fee Calculation Amount
Listing / renewal fee flat $0.20
Transaction fee 6.5% × $20.00 $1.30
Payment processing 3% × $20.00 + $0.25 $0.85
Total Etsy fees $2.35
You keep (before costs) $20.00 − $2.35 $17.65

That is 11.75% of the sale. Notice that two of the three fees have a flat part ($0.20 listing and $0.25 processing). On cheap items the flat parts hurt more: on a $5 sale the same fees add up to $0.93, about 18.5% of the sale.

The same sale through Offsite Ads

If that buyer arrived through an Offsite Ad, add 15% × $20.00 = $3.00. Total fees become $5.35 and you keep $14.65. At the 12% rate the fee would be $2.40 and you would keep $15.25.

Then come your own costs

$17.65 is not profit yet. Subtract materials, packaging, the postage you pay (if you offer free shipping) and a share of your tools and supplies. If the earrings cost $3.50 in materials and packaging and $4.10 to post, you are at $10.05 before your own time. That is why it pays to calculate prices with fees built in, instead of adding fees as an afterthought.

Shipping and tax: two details that change the math

Shipping you charge is part of the transaction fee and the processing fee. Charging $4.50 shipping on the $20 earrings adds 6.5% × $4.50 = $0.29 transaction fee and 3% × $4.50 = $0.14 processing fee.

Sales tax that Etsy collects on US orders is included in the order total that processing is calculated on, so processing costs you a little more on taxed orders even though the tax itself goes to the state. For sellers outside the US, the transaction fee may also apply to taxes in some cases; check the fee page for your country.

How to work out your own numbers

  1. Find your processing rate for your bank country in Etsy's help article.
  2. Add up: $0.20 + 6.5% of (price + shipping) + processing % of the order total + the flat processing fee.
  3. Add 15% (or 12%) for orders from Offsite Ads, and any regulatory fee for your country.
  4. Subtract your material, packaging and postage costs to see what is left.
